Hello everyone,
I haven’t been writing you for a long time, so I will devote more time and text to you in this edition! I have a lot of things to write and tell you about, so I will write in two parts!
Before I start writing about my holiday and how I spent the last 4-5 weeks, I want to look back at the first part of the season.
In short, unsuccessful title defense in Australia, and fantastic results from Miami to Paris and then quite turbulent season on grass... There were a lot of oscillations on and off court, but it is all a part of career of a professional tennis player, and it is important to draw lessons and continue with your head up! Tennis is a cruel sport because you have to be ready to accept the fact that there is a possibility to lose a match at almost every tournament you take part. This is a great mental struggle, from which one should come out motivated for the next challenges.
I was raised to learn from my own and other people’s mistakes and to look on the positive side of an experience, so I once again want to look back to Serbia Open title, which means to me for more reasons! The most important is the image of Belgrade and Serbia which could be seen throughout the world and which presented a great success of the tournament, organisation, our country, people who supported the week of tennis in the most beautiful way! I would like to thank once again all the volunteers, the people who had a good will to make the tournament experience blossom, and that the guests who participated at the tournament and who came to enjoy watching tennis, leave our country satisfied and happy! Since this was the first year we hosted the tennis tournament, the primary goal was that the tennis world hears nice stories about the whole event!
With my experience talking to the people after the tournament, I can tell we did even more than we planned, everything was successful, and we will try to apply for the organisation of the higher category tournament in the upcoming years.
And now follows the more interesting part of the diary! :)
I was two weeks on a vacation, which is probably the longest period without tennis obligations in the middle of the season, since I’ve been playing tennis professionally! The first part of the holiday I spent with my girlfriend Jelena visiting many interesting places on the Côte d'Azur. Those were quite active 7-10 days, we visited many coastal towns and enjoyed the summer idyll.
I will write about some of the most interesting places:
Portofino (Italy) - Nice, romantic place, but too small to stay there for more than a few days! Ideal for a visit with a boat or yacht, because the places that surround it are full of discrete and attractive coves, where you can spend the day sunbathing and swimming...
Cannes (France) - As a coastal town, it attracts tourists because of its long sandy beaches, but also because of historic buildings and narrow streets. Cannes is probably the most famous in the world for its film festival. Jelena and I managed to organise and to visit this city during the festival. We were at the party which was organised for the Hollywood stars in one of the most popular night clubs, which is located on the beach. We met Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino and others... We did not stay long, because they did not play folk music, so we went demonstratively :)
Saint Tropez (France) - a place that is well known (especially in summer) for rich people, with its luxurious hotels and yachts, good parties. My opinion is that it is an interesting city, full of young people, hospitality is on the high level...
Monaco at the end of course, our favorite destination, and home. We really feel comfortable in our magic city.
Oh and yes, we went to all the places by car, not a yacht, as our “well-informed” media wrote! :)
I went to Belgrade for a few days to carry out some medical examinations, which I do every few months. I got an invitation and had an honor with several other elite athletes from our country to close the Universiade! It was a marvelous experience primarily because I was among my fellow athletes and I saw happy faces which means that Serbia managed to achieve success in the organisation of this event. And that night all the students were on the splav Freestayler deep into the night dancing, singing, celebrating... As expected, because Belgrade has the most craziest and the most interesting night life in Europe!
For the end of the part I of my diary I would like to congratulate our golden water polo team, our young basketball players, and Milorad Cavic and Nadja Higl.
We followed water polo live from Umag against Croatia, and celebrated their great achievement. Of course, we didn’t want to watch the match from the mainland and maybe have conflict with our rival fans because of cheering, so we watched from a boat! After the great victory, we started yelling, jumping and drowning in the open sea! :)
We didn’t have live broadcast for the final game, so we had to be on the direct telephone line. We were screaming when we scored the final 5m goal! And then we celebrated the water polo gold medal deep into the night with a water polo ball in the middle of the table! :)
We saw Cavke when he won 50m gold medal! We were sorry he lost the same way to Phelps in the 100m race as in Beijing, but they will have many more battles! Congratulations champion! And you could invite us for a coffee to your new apartment. ;)
Definitely the biggest surprise is Nadja Higl, who will surely bring us a lot of medals in future!
Unfortunately, I couldn’t follow our young basketball players anywhere, but I congratulate them once again with hope that our senior team will make us happy at the upcoming European Championships in Poland!
Serbia - the country of world champions! I saw the welcome that was organised for them in Belgrade! That was fantastic! Absolutely deservedly, I wish them all the best, and to return with more medals and titles in future!
Greetings from Montreal!
P.S. In the second part of the diary, I will write about the preparations, and I have a surprise video from that period! :)
